A Message from the Principal
On behalf of our students and staff, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the Sandmeier School web page, and the 2007-2008 school year. As we enter our third year as an intermediate elementary school (grades 3-4-5), we continue to devote much time and energy into the planning of a cohesive schedule, development of school procedures, and implementation of age-appropriate curricular and extra-curricular activities. Through the diligent effort of the staff and PTA we have been able to maintain a variety of excellent activities from prior years, initiate some new ideas, and continually assess the success of each. Last year a “TLS Leadership Team” comprised of staff and parents utilized information collected from parent and teacher surveys to identify a set of beliefs for our school, and craft a new mission statement. This year we will be utilizing this information as a guide for the future direction of our school.
The Sandmeier School currently has an enrollment of approximately 240 students in grades three through five. In addition to the high quality instructional programs in all content areas, the curriculum is enriched by special area staff in the areas of art, music, library, physical education and health. Specialized programs that are provided include: special education, resource room, academic intervention, speech, gifted and talented, guidance, physical and occupational therapy. Students also have an opportunity to participate in choir, strings, and instrumental music programs.
One of the strengths of the Sandmeier School is the relationship of the school staff, PTA, parents/guardians, and community members. Through their collaborative efforts, many fun and motivating programs are presented each year to extend and enrich the total school program. A few examples include School Walk-A-Thon, Cultural Arts Assemblies, After School Activity Program, Family Math and Science, Talent Show, Math Carnival, Book Fair and School Picnic. Opportunities are also provided for leadership and participation in Student Council, School Newspaper, Wee Deliver In-School Mail Program, and outreach programs with local senior citizens and veterans.
Comprehensive staff development opportunities enhance the overall quality of instruction. Teachers utilize technological resources including classroom computers, SMART Boards, and a mobile computer lab to integrate technology into the instructional program. Our Media Center features ten Imac computers
