Principal's Message

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to our Thelma L. Sandmeier School
community. As we begin the 2022-2023 school year, I would like to take this opportunity to
recognize the outstanding efforts of the TLS school community that made last year a success. I
am eager to begin the school year with minimal restrictions and for more opportunities for our
students to learn in a traditional environment. The staff has worked diligently to plan and
prepare and make the 2022-2023 school year the best it can be.

With that said, the next three years that you and your child spend with us hold the promise of
boundless opportunities to promote and stimulate your child’s academic, emotional, and social
growth and development. They will be three of the most challenging and exciting years in their
young lives because these years are critical to the development of the child. We are proud to
offer a challenging and rigorous curriculum in all of our content areas and special areas including Art, Music, Library, Health, and Physical Education. We have found success in closing
achievement gaps by adding an additional W.I.N. (What I Need) period for intervention and
enrichment opportunities. and are excited to see how the departmentalizing of Grade 5 has
prepared our students for their transition to Middle School. This year, we are extremely excited
to be adding to our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support with the introduction of a resource room.

We also are proud to offer programs that support additional areas of student need such as Special Education, AIS, Gifted & Talented, Counseling, Speech, Physical and Occupational Therapy. To further enhance each child’s opportunity to become a well-rounded, life-long learner, students can further explore opportunities in Choir, Band, and Strings, Student Council, Talented Arts Program, and tutorial interventions and SEL opportunities.

We welcome our parents and guardians to join our PTA to further our partnership with our
families. The PTA is a great way to become engaged in your child’s learning and school
community. Again, the partnership of our families and staff are essential elements to the overall
growth and achievement of our students.

I am excited about what this new academic year will bring, and looking forward to seeing how
our talented staff and amazing students rise to the challenges of the 2022-2023 school year!
Please use this website to explore the different areas of Thelma L. Sandmeier school. Please do
not hesitate to contact me to discuss any concerns or share ideas that can help make our school the best place to be!

Sincerely,

Ronald Slate
Principal
