On December 9, 2019, the Board of Education presented Mrs. Alison Gillen, 7th grade Science teacher at the Florence M. Gaudineer Middle School, with a certificate of recognition for being chosen as a 2019 New Jersey Exemplary Educator. Mrs. Gillen has been in the Springfield School District for thirty years and is thirty-eight years in education. She has demonstrated an inspiring dedication to the Springfield Public Schools as an educator. She has provided inspiration to her students and the ability to learn. Students that present their winning Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) projects are extremely proud of their expertise and are eager to show their knowledge. Mrs. Gillen’s students have repeatedly produced exemplary submissions to the SSEP Evaluation Committee. Four different groups of her students have won, presented their experiment at the Smithsonian Institute National Air and Space Museum, and had projects that flew to the International Space Station. Mrs. Gillen was selected as a 2019 New Jersey Exemplary Educator by a committee of her peers for her exceptional teaching and leadership abilities.
