The Jonathan Dayton Bulldogs made history yesterday on the golf course at Newton Country Club Monday by becoming the first Dayton golf team since 1965 to win a sectional golf championship.
The Bulldogs won the North 2 Group 1 Championship on the challenging Newton Course shooting a team score of 359.
“We were truly a golf team, in that we didn’t have anybody who went super low, but the range of our scores was pretty good for a Group 1 school,” Dayton coach Dave Campbell said.
“I was very happy for senior Aiden Forys, because he started on the back nine and carded a 47, which was the worst score he carded for nine holes this season. A younger Aiden would have followed that up with probably a worse score. He responded with a 40 on a tough front nine to lead the charge.”
Junior Jack Resnick coming off a disappointing Union County tournament round at Echo Lake bounced back in a big way tying Aiden for team-best with an 87.
“Jack went back to Echo Lake Monday for Caddy Day to get a practice round in. He shot a superb round there and made a promise that he fulfilled on Monday that he would play well in the sectional.”
Senior Brett Netkin (91), Junior Noam Brooks (94), and Senior Jeremy Greiss (97) rounded out the scoring.
The Bulldogs finished the tournament in 2nd place overall. This earns Dayton the right to play in the Tournament of Champions to be held at Hawk Point CC next week.
