SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS AWARDED $1.2 MILLION
GRANT TO MOVE TO FULL DAY PRE-K
SPRINGFIELD–Springfield Public Schools has been awarded a $1.2 million state grant that will permit it to expand its pre-k program from half-day to full-day, provide smaller class sizes, and more inclusive opportunities for students receiving early intervention services. Governor Murphy and the New Jersey Department of Education announced the expanded funding today. Springfield Public Schools is excited to be the among the 27 districts statewide and the only District in Union County to receive this funding to strengthen the current early childhood program and provide opportunities for future students.
This was the first year that Springfield was eligible to apply for the grant, and the district is eager to put the funding to use in the district. Board President Scott Silverstein noted, “Springfield has always valued providing early childhood learning, and we have offered half-day preschool programs for more than 20 years. We are grateful to our legislators for providing this funding.” Superintendent Rachel Goldberg shared, “The grant provides essential funding to develop more personalized learning experiences in our classrooms for our youngest students, helping us to work toward our vision to cultivate compassionate and extraordinary learners.”
Families with children currently enrolled in the preschool program at Edward V. Walton Early Childhood Center will receive information in the coming weeks regarding the program’s transition, and additional information to the community will be shared over the next month.
The district is actively hiring for teachers and paraprofessionals to fill the roles that allow us to expand our early childhood program. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply at: https://www.applitrack.com/springfield/onlineapp/jobpostings/view.asp?internaltransferform.Url=
