World Language

The World Language Department is dedicated to motivating and expanding students’ capacity to speak a foreign language to encourage a competitive attitude in a global society. In order to achieve this goal, the department provides a solid, integral program focusing on speaking, listening, reading and writing in the target language.

In order to boost fluency, a variety of authentic, audio-visual, technology-integrated and student-oriented activities are used in every course. The department aims to prepare qualified students for the Advanced Placement exam, which is offered in Spanish, French and Italian. Additionally, students have the opportunity to achieve the State Seal of Biliteracy which identifies graduating high school students to be proficient in English as well as one or more world languages.

The World Language Department’s use of problem based learning tasks, activity lists, podcasts & many other language related websites illustrates the many ways in which we address differentiated instruction. Through these various resources, students are able to read, write, listen and speak at their own pace and according to their own abilities.

In addition, students taking AP French 5 and AP Spanish 5 are eligible to gain college credit at Seton Hall University through their “Project Acceleration.” Credits may be transferred to another college if the student does not attend Seton Hall University.
